Thursday at Wicanton

Paul Nicholls

12.50 - Lifeboat Mona runs in this mares hurdle instead of the mares Listed Bumper at Huntingdon on Sunday for which she was entered. A winning irish pointer she contested 4 bumpers last season winning the first two at Warwick and Huntingdon with the latter being a listed event. She was then third at Sandown in another listed bumper before being over the top when running at Aintree. She has had problems with her wind and has therefore been operated on over the summer. She is a nice exciting prospect that will appreciate jumping and the mares hurdles are an attractive proposition. The track should suit and this looks a suitable starting point to get the show on the road but the heavy ground may not be to her liking.

1.25 - Varom hadn't run for 663 days prior to running at Warwick recently where he wore a first time tongue tie. He was disappointing there finishing 10th of 15 having been well backed(11/4 into 6/4). He sustained an injury last season but that could have been a blessing in disguise as he was continuing to develop.  He has been dropped 2lb to 107h which is an exploitable mark coming from this stable but it remains to be seen if he can do it on the track and I'll just be watching this time.

3.45 - Antartica De Thaix wears a hood and a tongue tie for the first time. She had just the one run for the stable last season in a bumper at Kempton when she came home 6th of 14 having run too free. She is said to have shown plenty of jumping ability at home and she should be up to winning this bumper before going on to better things in time.
