Midweek at Warwick

Paul Nicholls
12.40 - Varom hasn't run for 663 days and wears a first time tongue tie on his return in this conditional jockeys handicap hurdle. He sustained an injury last season but that could have been a blessing in disguise as he was continuing to develop. His 17 year old jockey Harry Cobden should be full of confidence after his wins on the stables progressive hurdler Old Guard and if Varom has improved for his time off he is on an interesting mark of 109h.

2.50 - Le Prezien ran a promising race at Strasbourg before being acquired by Anthony Bromley for the Million In Mind Partnership. Although he is unlikely to beat Yanworth he should give a good account and he will probably improve as the season progresses and the fences get bigger.

Dan Skelton
1.10 - Winterfell won in France over 2m 2f on soft when making most of the running before sprinting clear to win by 5 lengths at the end of September. Dan Skelton seems to think a lot of this horse and he looks capable of giving the fav a run for his money in this 3yo juvenile hurdle.

1.45 - Rene's Girl ran in two bumpers last season finishing 6th and 4th and stable think she will have little trouble picking up races this season. She returned at Chepstow running a good race to finish 3rd behind one of today's rivals Hollies Pearl whom she meets on 7lb better terms today. Although today's race is one a half furlongs further she will still jump 11 hurdles as at Chepstow and it's the jumping aspect that seems to have brought about her improvement but she should be thereabouts.

2.50 - Blue Prairie hasn't shown much to date and he drops back down in distance to 2m. Unless the penny suddenly drops he is set for minor honours at best.

3.20 - Arthamint won a maiden bumper at Ludlow last December but then never progressed from there in 3 runs. He returned at Ludlow after a breathing operation and finished 6th after pulling hard. Said to be more of a chasing prospect his next run came in a 4 runner novice handicap chase at Lingfield over 2m 4f on soft which he won by 2 lengths but was then subsequently disqualified - his jockey having weighed in light. He looks to be improved for tackling the larger obstacles and he runs here off a workable mark of 101c - plus the step up to 3m may bring further improvement and he holds a decent chance.

No bets today although Varom, Winterfell and Arthamint are all capable of winning.
