Newton Abbot Friday

Just when you thought the National Hunt season was getting going - tomorrow Newton Abbot stage their "Season Finale" - their last race meeting of 2015.
But they are going out with a bang with two Class 2 races.

Paul Nicholls had 12 entries at the 5 day stage but has only declared four and they are as follows :

Simon Squirrel
1.55 Newton Abbot
Runners: 9
Distance : 2m
Going: Good to Soft(Good in places)
Background : First foal out of a sister to Rock On Ruby. He won a Chepstow bumper for Charlie Brooks on Grand National day and he was purchased by the stable soon after.
Last Season : Ran just the once finishing 8th to Supasundae in a Class 1 National Hunt Flat Race at Ascot. Has previously worn a tongue tie.
Trainers Comments :
He's a big chasing type, the sort I love. Most Robin Des Champs are natural jumpers but oddly enough this one has taken time to get the hang of it. Is a month off running in a novice hurdle and won't want the ground too soft. 10/11/2014
Targets : N/A
In Summary : Should appreciate the better going and this is a realistic level to start his hurdling career. He has been given lots of time and should be able to add to his impressive Chepstow bumper win.

Dormello Mo
2.30 Newton Abbot
Runners: 6
Distance: 2m75y
Going: Good to Soft(Good in places)
Background : Won on his final outing over hurdles in France before being purchased by connections. Had an operation to help his breathing after his run at Sandown last December.
Last Season : Ran several times winning on a couple of occasions. His last 5 runs have been at Newton Abbot. Usually wears a tongue tie.

"Dormello Mo will keep going over the summer as he wants the quicker ground. There is a two mile novice chase here next month and there is every chance he will be back".
12Nov14 Exeter  17 Hy
"We fitted Dormello Mo with a tongue-tie for the first time as I have always had a suspicion about his breathing but he was fine on this occasion".
08Mar14 Sandown  16 Sft
"It was too far and too soft at Exeter, and he was a bit novicey too. He could come back for the juvenile handicap here on the last day of the season".
Targets : Cheltenham October Meeting.
In Summary : Although his last few wins have come on decent ground he shouldn't have any problem with cut as he bolted up on heavy at Exeter last November. He goes very well at this track.

Morito Du Berlais
3.00 Newton Abbot
SIS HANDICAP HURDLE (CLASS 2) (4yo+)Runners: 7
Distance: 3m 2f 105y
Going: Good to Soft(Good in places)
Background : Half-brother to a top-class French hurdler a couple of years ago, Nikita Du Berlais. Struggled with his breathing and had an operation in 2014 after proving disappointing the previous season. Wears a tongue tie.
Last Season : Ran 6 times last season winning 3 at Exeter, Cheltenham and Ascot. Balloted out of the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham.
Trainers Comments :
21Oct14 Exeter 23 GS
"I advised the owner not to come because I didn´t think he´d win today. He had a breathing operation over the summer and that has clearly helped him".
14Nov14 Cheltenham 21 Sft
"He´s improving and is a really nice horse. He was disappointing last season but he had a breathing op in the summer and he has grown up a lot as well".
29Mar15 Ascot 23.5 GS
"Sean (Bowen) gave Morito Du Berlais a peach as he doesn´t want to be in front too soon".
Targets : N/A
In Summary : Goes well fresh and the trip should suit, he prefers a bit of cut. Jumps tidily and trainer has always thought he will make a nice chaser, although he tackles hurdles this time.

Art Mauresque
3.35 Newton Abbot
Runners: 13
Distance: 2m75y
Going: Good to Soft(Good in places)
Background : Had smart Juvenile form in France before joining this stable.
Last Season : Ran 4 times winning 3 - albeit against small fields. His chase rating is now 144. Usually wears a tongue tie.
Trainers Comments :
22Apr15 Taunton  16 GF
"Art Mauresque loves this ground and is now settling a lot better in his races. There is a 25,000GBP chase at the beginning of May and we might well look at that".
14Mar15 Kempton  16 Gd
"Art Mauresque wants this good ground. When he won at Auteuil it was better summer ground. He will go to Ascot for quite a valuable novice handicap over this trip in a couple of weeks".
Targets : N/A
In Summary : Jumps really well. Needs better ground but Good to Soft should be ok. Distance is perfect.

You will need to check the going in the morning, although it looks as though it will be dry until racing.

We were right not to do the two stable runners today as Ballycoe was a disappointing 3rd and Abidjan although winning easily was 4/7F.

1 point win - Simon Squirrel @ 2/1 BET365 and BetVictor
